On September 29, 2009, the CUNY Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Robert E. Paaswell as Interim President of CCNY. He will be replacing Gregory H. Williams, who resigned earlier this semester in order to take the position as president of the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Robert Paaswell is already familiar with CCNY through the University Transportation Research Center (UTRC), which he was director of since 1990. According to UTRC's website, the organization, which is based right here at City College, focuses on "…the stewardship, management, and future evolution of [our region's] already mature transportation systems, in the face of emerging policy challenges."
Dr. Paaswell has a more than extensive background in public transportation and consulting for the government. According to the CCNY Department of Civil Engineering's website, he is currently serving as a member of Governor Paterson's Commission on Higher Education and a member of Workforce Development and Construction Excellence.
Dr. Paaswell is also a founding head of the CUNY Institute for Urban Systems. According to their website, they "… [seek] to help cities adapt to their changing infrastructure needs through research, education, policy advisement, and advancement of the state of professional practice."
The CUNY Newswire reports that Dr. Paaswell received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Columbia University in 1957. He earned an M.S. in Applied Mechanics from Columbia in 1962, and his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Rutgers University in 1965. Dr. Paaswell received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council on Transportation of NYU's Rudin Center for Transportation Policy in 2009; and Rutgers University's Outstanding Civil Engineering Alumnus Award in 2003. He belongs on the editorial boards of the Journal of Transportation, the Journal of Urban Technology, and the Journal of Public Transport.
On the Newswire the Interim President said, "For more than a century-and-a-half, the College has been a beacon of opportunity and achievement. I embrace this stewardship with great humility, knowing that with the creative energies of our outstanding faculty and extraordinary students, the greatest days of opportunity and achievement are now within our reach in the 21st century."
The Campus congratulates Interim President Paaswell and looks forward to his vision for the future of CCNY.

This guy has all the qualifications to make a big impact for the school. CUNY will not be the same.
